What is Surviving to Thriving?

The program is about returning to eating the way Mother Nature intended and having the knowledge to give your body the core nutritional elements that it needs without relying on willpower or the strict rules of a traditional diet.

Surviving to Thriving helps people improve their relationships with food through a powerful combination of solid nutritional principles and effective behavioral change techniques so that people can free their feelings about food, love the way they look and embrace the lifestyle they lead.

Every animal on Earth has its own diet; a particular way of eating that makes it possible for that animal to function at its absolute best. The core concept of the program is the belief that the same is true for human beings.

There is an ideal diet for humans, but modern conveniences and food marketing campaigns have convinced us to eat in opposition to this natural way. This is why 1 in 3 people are dying from heart disease. 1 in 3 from cancer.

Food is our greatest medicine, but so many of us are ignoring or mistreating this rich resource.

As a certified Coach, Maria will help you change the way you think about feeding your body. And, as a result, you’ll find yourself feeling stronger, more energized, and healthier as you learn this new lifestyle.

Eric Edmeades

Eric Edmeades spent the earlier part of his life struggling with constant sinus and throat infections, excess weight, acne and chronic fatigue.
His doctors believed that surgically removing his tonsils was the solution, but on a whim, Eric decided to experiment with changing his diet. Within 30 days, all of his symptoms disappeared, so the surgery was cancelled.

You know those people who get an idea and become obsessed with it? Eric is one of those people. He became fascinated by food’s role in achieving true health. He wanted to understand why simple dietary changes healed his body - especially when western medicine had spent years telling him that cutting out a part of his body was the only solution.

His research took him in 2007 to establish a friendship and live with the Hadza people (bushmen in Africa)— one of the last truly hunter-gatherer tribes left on earth. Since he has visited them frequently over the last 10 years, studying their eating patterns. He has also waded through stacks of nutritional data and functional anthropology research, devoting years of his life to analyzing and testing his theories. The founding of the program in 2012 was the culmination of it all.

Without Eric’s passion, the thousands of people whose lives have been changed would still be struggling with poor health and debilitating diseases.

Almost all of the program principles are drawn from ancient hunter-gatherer societies — not just studying their lifestyles, but also looking at what we know about their nutritional physiology. Back when our ancestors were eating based on instinct and accessibility (they didn’t have 24/7 drive-throughs or constant food marketing campaigns), they ate more of certain foods, and less of other foods. The program is about following in their footsteps. It really is that simple!
